Curriculum and activities:
Infants and Toddlers:
I do not have a set curriculum for the 3mo's through 2 and 1/2 years, but I encourage them to be around the preschoolers and join in with the activities I am doing with the preschoolers. Often the younger ones just want to explore their environment on their own. I have ample age appropriate toys and manipulatives to occupy the younger ones: from noisy toys to peg boards, large legos, train table and so on. I encourage coloring with crayons from a young age, and they always do special projects for all the various holidays: mother and father's day, Christmas, Easter etc. When they are 2 and 1/2 years old, I do try to get them to sit down at circle/story/gathering time and get used to more structure. Usually as they mature they want to be doing what their older peers are involved in and it's wonderful to see the preschoolers pass on their 'knowledge' to their young friends.
Preschoolers:
I organize and create my own preschool curriculum and have many, many resources I use. Teacher books, The Mailbox, the internet, Scholastic printables and such.
I aim to educate the children in the areas of pre-literacy, science, math, sensory, large motor, fine motor...all the skills they will need to be ready for Kindergarten. I use fun and interesting ways for them to learn these skills.
Children are so eager to be learning and discovering!
I am currently homeschooling my 3 girls, and this has only added to my knowledge and awareness of what is needed for Kindergarten.
I try to teach the kids about giving back, near Christmas time, we pack a shoebox for 'Operation Christmas Child', and on the night I offer a free night of babysitting ( in January), we either make sandwiches(for the Sandwich Project), or we build towers out of cans and boxes that I take to the CAP agency foodshelf the next day.
During the year there are often sharing days:
*Bring an item that begins with the letter....
*Pajama day
*Wear green, pink, red/white/blue day
*Bring your Easter basket
*Bring a $5 gift (to exchange for Christmas)
and so on.
Three times a month I have an enrichment program come to my home:
*TLC Music with Miss Alicia - a half hr program that introduces 18 mo's and up, to the beginnings and joy of music.
**This is an added $20 per month, per family, for the program.
I aim to either organize a trip to the fire station( with help from a parent or my husband), or I have had the fire truck come visit at my house.
